Baseball was introduced to Jamaica in the late 19th century by American sailors and settlers. The sport quickly gained popularity, particularly in the island's capital city, Kingston. By the early 20th century, baseball had become a staple of Jamaican sports culture, with teams springing up in communities across the island. The Jamaica Baseball Association (JBA) was established in 1933 to govern the sport and promote its development.

The first Jamaican ballplayer to play in a recognized major league was Oscar Joseph "Chick" Levis (August 7, 1898 – May 24, 1983). born Oscar Joseph Levy, was a Jamaican baseball pitcher in the Negro leagues. He played from 1921 to 1931 with the Cuban Stars (East) and the Hilldale Club.

Jamaica has produced four players in Major League Baseball. Chilli Davis (debut April 10, 1981 - October 3,1999). He played for a few notable teams such as, San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees. Devon White (debut September 2, 1985 - October 5, 2001). He played for a few teams as well like the, California Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and Florida Marlins. Rolando Roomes (debut April 12, 1988 - September 30, 1990), playing for the Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos. Justin Masterson (debut April 24, 2008 - August 9, 2015) who played for Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jamaica's national baseball team has competed in several international tournaments, including the Caribbean Baseball Cup and the Pan American Games.
